Abstract

NUNES, Lina Cardoso  and  VILARINHO, Lúcia Regina Goulart. Social inequality and access to media in school environments and family. Sér.-Estud. [online]. 2013, n.35, pp.99-115. ISSN 2318-1982.  https://doi.org/10.20435/2318-1982-2013-v.35(07).

In the relationships established between social inequality and educational opportunities, favored by the critical appropriation of information and communication technologies, the following question emerges: how do children and young people, belonging to different social classes, realize their media relationship/ usage? To answer these question managers, teachers and students from two public municipal schools of Rio de Janeiro were heard. The study, of a qualitative nature, showed that students of these schools, belonging to underprivileged social classes, cannot be characterized as digitally excluded, because, in addition to digital access to a great variety of media, they have demonstrated having several skills in using them.

Keywords : Social Inequalities; Media; Digital Inclusion.
