Abstract

The study refers to an analysis of academic research conducted in Brazil regarding the selection and the use of Textbooks by teachers of Natural Sciences (Sciences, Biology, Physics and Chemistry) and Mathematics. Were analyzed the registered researches in CAPES (www.capes.gov.br) database. It was found a paucity of studies on the subject. The researches prioritize public school teachers as subjects of their studies. The choice of textbooks generally occurs solitarily, lightly, without consulting the Textbook Guide and sometimes the management agencies interfered on this process. The chosen book is the one more in tune with the Department of Education curriculum guidelines, contains clear and simple texts and good illustrations and exercises as well. The textbook supports the teacher in his class management and the sequence and depth of content.
