Abstract

NUNES, Ana Ignez Belém Lima  and  NUNES, João Batista Carvalho. Role of teacher educators, formative models and strategies in teacher development. Sér.-Estud. [online]. 2013, n.36, pp.91-108. ISSN 2318-1982.  https://doi.org/10.20435/2318-1982-2013-v.36(07).

The role of teacher educator in continuing teacher education and models and strategies for teacher development are discussed. It starts with the analysis of the role of the teacher educator, placing the complexity of conceptualizing this term, as well as still present weaknesses in his formation. The idea that consistency between the training required for teachers and training of their teacher educators is a key aspect to promote teacher development is supported. Then, different models and strategies for continuing teacher education are presented based on scientific literature and studies of the authors. Finally, proposals for the improvement of continuing teacher education from the perspective of teacher development are outlined to be implemented by government agencies and/or by schools.
