Abstract

This article is the result of a research conducted on the Master’s Program in Mato Grosso Federal University on teacher education and the teaching of Mathematics. It was questioned: what challenges does the graduated Pedagogy teacher, in order to teach Mathematics, in Elementary School, face? It was chosen interpretative qualitative research. It was analyzed, five pedagogy licensing courses curriculum organization in the state of Mato Grosso and eight teachers’ testimonies who work with public Elementary School, in the municipal district from Rondonópolis, MT. The results make evident that the challenges faced, to teach Mathematics in the Elementary School, are inserted in questions like teachers’ education and school organization, and they have, primarily, pedagogical nature.
