The objective of this paper is to analyze the painting of Giotto di Bondone (1267-1337), The Expulsion of the moneychangers from the temple. The research is developed by the perspective of the History of Education and the theoretical assumptions are from Social History, which allows us to engage with various areas of knowledge production and use imagery as a source of research. Our thoughts will be directed by concerns about the commercial expansion of the thirteenth century that gave rise to new needs and questioned the values of the Christian tradition. Consequently, the Church was faced with the struggle to maintain a belief in its dogmas and to legitimate business activities that kept the success of the society. Thus, we studied the pain�� ng of Giottio investigating the hypothesis that the formation of man of the thirteenth century is driven by the need to balance the spiritual and earthly values.
