The article presents a brief reflection on the use of the newspaper as a source for historical research. With reference to the newspaper "O Operatic", it presents important aspects of the workers' mobilizations at the beginning of the twentieth century in Sorocaba, the interests in education and feminist writers' manifestations upon the role of women, anarchism and social struggle.
