On this article we aim to analyze the literacy and lettering concepts presented by teachers of chil dhood education. Introducing some reflections about the appropriation of the written language, highlighting the connection between the literacy processes and literacy understanding them res pectively as: learning skills necessary for the acts of reading and writing, estate or condition of the person that incorporates social practices of reading and writing. Such reflections are based on the analysis of the concepts presented by teachers from childhood education. Lastly, we also consider to be the role of early childhood education to enrich the literacy process of children and stimulate their literacy, based on the possibilities and limits of this scholarity level. This requires recognizing that such processes are inseparable and interdependent, but distinct. This conclusion transported us to the necessity of rethinking the initial and continuing teachers education.
