Abstract

The study analyzes the formation of a dance teacher and the curriculum proposed by the course of Performing Arts and Dance at the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS) since its inception in 2010 until its reformulation in 2014. Developed by analyzing documents (Education Program Course for the Performing Arts and Dance of UEMS, minutes of meetings and curriculum of the course), presents the implementation and structure of the course. Reports the activities and actions proposed during its first four years of existence and reflects on teacher training under this proposal. Presents a brief history of dance in undergraduate courses in the country and highlights the importance of teacher training so that the artist can act as a teacher. Concludes that the Education and Art are fields of knowledge through which transits Professor of Art / Dance in school and have well trained teacher is one of the conditions for improving art education in schools.
