Abstract

BRASIL, Vitor Pedroso; GARCIA, Narjara Mendes  and  TAVARES, Elen Machado. Ecological approach and youth perceptions of their places, risk factors and social protection. Sér.-Estud. [online]. 2016, vol.21, n.42, pp.147-160. ISSN 2318-1982.  https://doi.org/10.20435/2318-1982-2016-v.21-n.42(09).

The place is a complex and systemic life context. Through the perception of place, the experiences, relationships and learning built by the individual in and with the context are understandable. This study is proposed to present the youth perceptions of the place in which they are inserted. To this end, young people belonging to the Youth Apprenticeship Program, conducted in a technical school in the south of Brazil, were chosen to be participants. The data collection was done through the focus group and reflective record in regards to place. For the data analysis, the steps from Grounded Theory were followed. The results manifested perceptions on meanings, feelings and experiences in the relationship with other individuals and life contexts. The assigned meanings revealed a critical outlook on the place that is lived and thought, risk factors and social protection, feeling of belonging and recognition of the importance of place in the formation of the individual. The young people's accounts demonstrate an ecological outlook on the places in which they are inserted and the possibility of environmental education that takes into consideration the way these individuals read the world.
