Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Fabiana de  and  ARAUJO, Tuane Francelino. The university toy library as a space for children of creation and imagination. Sér.-Estud. [online]. 2016, vol.21, n.43, pp.143-160. ISSN 2318-1982.  https://doi.org/10.20435/2318-1982-2016-v.21-n.43(08).

This article presents a reflection about the activities developed in a university playroom located in southern Minas Gerais, specifically from the research project development called Playing with scraps. The methodology consisted of workshops with the children and carrying out observation and filming audio and video made by researchers and also by children. The theoretical framework adopted for the study is guided by the assumptions of the sociology of childhood. It was found that children have interest in handmade toys made from scrap, but their interest in producing their own toys is much higher. The research also showed the importance of allowing a playful space of exchange and peer interaction through play, in which the child can produce and feel at ease in carrying out their activities using scrap as raw material for their imagination.

Keywords : Toy; child culture; sociology of childhood.
