Abstract

CARVALHO, Rodrigo Saballa de  and  RADOMSKI, Lidianne Laizi. Images of infant teaching: discussing narratives of nursery school teachers. Sér.-Estud. [online]. 2017, vol.22, n.44, pp.41-59. ISSN 2318-1982.  https://doi.org/10.20435/serie-estudos.v22i44.1015.

Based on the Studies of Early Childhood Pedagogy, the article aims to show the images of teaching of teachers who work with infants in nursery schools. Methodologically, 60 interviews were conducted on the teachers' perceptions of the ways they engage in teaching infants. Based on the analysis, two images of teaching were observed as analytical axes: the specter of motherhood and the imperative of stimulus. In relation to the first axis, the image that the teachers are surrogate for the mothers and whose sole function is infant care was recurrent in their narratives. In the second axis, the fundamental image was the narratives that show the imperative that babies are stimulated to develop and be prepared for the subsequent levels of early childhood education. Thus, the importance that the teacher understands there is not a supposed model of professional practice to be followed in the nursery school can be inferred, but that there is a myriad of possibilities for the formation of a teacher.
