Abstract

This paper aims to analyze which one (s) to (s) function (s) social (s) to attribute (s) to school from the perspective of teachers and elementary school students from public schools in Naviraí, Mato Grosso do Sul, MS. We conducted a literature review on the topic, if subsidizing in authors like Saviani (2003), Rodrigues (1988), Freire (1996) Bourdieu and Passeron (1992), among others, as well as interviews with teachers and students. Respondents participants see the school's role as that of teaching the knowledge historically produced, however, there is difficulty in defining what in fact is essential and what is secondary in the school educational work.
