Abstract

This article aims to deepen the relationship between citizen formation and consumption practices. It is the result of research in the literature, and it is supported by Brazilian legal frameworks and writers like Bauman (2007, 2008, 2009), Cardia and Bastos (2005), Reis (2009, 2013), and among others. The purpose is to discuss the role and the responsibility of the school in providing a meaningful and emancipatory education that results in the formation of citizens able to exercise the prerogative of questioning the world based on the academic knowledge. Within such knowledge, the focus is given to the knowledge in the natural sciences area, which can offer space for the development of interdisciplinary projects. These projects create opportunities to promote a scientific education that will shed light on the construction of a lucid and environmentally conscious moral sense as consumers able of acting actively and position themselves faced with the market appeals and the consumption.
