The Open University of Brazil (UAB) system was instituted by Decree n. 5,800, of June 8th, 2006, and its main purpose is to train teachers to work in basic education. The present article presents the results of a study that sought to analyze the effects of the policy developed by the UAB in the perspective of graduates of the Pedagogy course in the mode of Distance Education (EaD) of the State University of Maringá (UEM), 2009 class. It is a qualitative research linked to the field of educational policies, which encompasses theoretical and empirical studies. The results indicate that the benefits obtained after completing the EaD/UEM Pedagogy course under the UAB System exceed the expansion of the number of places in higher education. It was found that there were improvements in the professional and personal life of the subjects surveyed.
