Abstract

CASTRO, Eliziane Rocha; NUNES, João Batista Carvalho; NASCIMENTO, Francisco Jeovane do  and  RABELO, Francy Sousa. The literature review in doctoral theses: conduction analysis and writing. Sér.-Estud. [online]. 2020, vol.25, n.54, pp.27-47.  Epub Sep 22, 2020. ISSN 2318-1982.  https://doi.org/10.20435/serie-estudos.v25i54.1190.

The quality of the literature reviews in doctoral theses was analyzed, whose dates of defense are in the interstitial time 2013-2016 and are linked to the Graduate Program in Education and Contemporaneity of the State University of Bahia (PPGEduC/UNEB). In this essay, the results related to one of the research lines of this Program are shown. The demand is anchored in a mixed or quali-quantitative approach, with the adoption of the documental research method. The theses, considered research documents, were obtained from the CAPES Catalog of Theses and Dissertations. These analyses were built based on the adaptation of Boote and Beile Literature Review Scoring Rubric (2005), taking four categories: Coverage, Synthesis, Significance, and Rhetoric. The results reveal that the examined theses provided a fertile and interesting contribution to structure the literature review in the production of scientific knowledge because they point out important aspects that must be involved in order to conduct and write a literature review of quality.

Keywords : literature review; doctoral theses; Education.
