Abstract

GONCALVES, Jociane de Oliveira Nunes  and  SANTANA, Maria Luiza da Silva. Teacher training and perceptions about multiculturalism: inclusion of students from Paraguay. Sér.-Estud. [online]. 2022, vol.27, n.60, pp.105-124.  Epub Aug 30, 2022. ISSN 2318-1982.  https://doi.org/10.20435/serie-estudos.v27i60.1636.

This study addresses the cultural diversity existing in Brazil, taking a cut on the border between Ponta Porã (Brazil) and Pedro Juan Caballero (Paraguay), from an educational perspective. In the context in question, there are three main languages: Portuguese, Guarani, and Spanish. The issue encompasses questions about education, such as how it is developed due to linguistic variation and the presence of Paraguayan students in Brazilian schools. Thus, this article aims to describe the training and perceptions of teachers regarding multiculturalism and its implications for pedagogical practices for the inclusion of students from Paraguay in Brazilian schools. The research methodology adopted was qualitative, and there was the participation of eight educators from two public schools, one belonging to the state network and the other to the municipal education network. Information for this study was obtained through a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The results showed that continuing education focused on the inclusive special education area, being this the most mentioned by the interviewees. It was also found that there are educators who have knowledge about multiculturalism and that most of them recognize that it is necessary to work on this issue at school in all instances. They showed interest in continuing education that includes multiculturalism.
