Abstract

SANTOS, Cleber Lúcio Sousa; MOREIRA, Núbia Regina  and  GOMES, Talita. Carolina goes to schools: producing anti-racist curriculum in the interior of Bahia. Sér.-Estud. [online]. 2024, vol.29, n.65, pp.35-56.  Epub May 29, 2024. ISSN 2318-1982.  https://doi.org/10.20435/serieestudos.v29i65.1931.

This article aims to present an analysis of activities produced by a research group made up of professors/researchers, undergraduate and bachelor's students, mostly black women involved in the de/re/construction of Eurocentric curricula. Those are actions constructed through the creation of theories and insurgent and decolonial curricular practices, maintained by black feminist epistemologies. The empirical field was produced from conversations in state high schools located in three municipalities in Bahia, which were triggered by the Carolina goes to schools’ project. The Project aimed to present dilemmas of Brazilian reality based on two works by Carolina Maria de Jesus: Quarto de Despejo: Diário de uma Favelada (2019) and Diário de Bitita (2014). The letters produced by students from the classes involved in the project reveal the complexities of dilemmas posed by Carolina, who, like the author, has had her life permeated by racism, sexism, and financial difficulties. With Carolina, they are affected by the vital force that moved her towards her dream of writing, a message that resonated with students the possibility of imagining the improvement of their lives through education.

Keywords : Carolina Maria de Jesus; curriculum; black feminist epistemologies.
