Conservation areas constitute essential spaces for the conservation of biodiversity and for carrying out scientific research and traditional knowledge. In addition, they are spaces in which environmental education can be developed as a mechanism for individual and collective transformation, stimulating bonding and affective connection with the place. This research aimed to investigate non-formal environmental education practices in conservation areas in Mato Grosso do Sul. To this end, an empirical research was carried out, using the semi-structured interview technique, qualitatively analyzing the context in which non-formal environmental education is inserted in the identified spaces. From the survey carried out, seven conservation areas were selected and six thematic axes were built based on the guide script to guide the analyzes and research results. They are: non-formal environmental education practices; involvement with the community in promoting environmental education; collective involvement through partnerships and integrated networks; challenges in promoting environmental education; impact of the pandemic, due to the spread of the coronavirus, on the activities and knowledge of critical environmental education.
