Abstract

SANTOS, CATARINA DE ALMEIDA. Distance Education in Brazilian higher education: democratization of the offer or market expansion. Revista Brasileira de Política e Administração da Educação [online]. 2018, vol.34, n.1, pp.167-188. ISSN 2447-4193.  https://doi.org/10.21573/vol34n12018.82470.

The article presents the results of the process of regulation, implantation, and the expansion of distance education in Brazil, which sought to understand how this process is in line with the expansion of the educational market. The documentary-based survey analyzed data from the Census of higher education, World Bank, UN, Unesco, and OECD documents. The results point to an accelerated process of expansion of supply by the private sector, the cooling of the public offering, and a process of regulation that favors the expansion of the educational market.

Keywords : distance education - Brazil; educational expansion; college education.
