Abstract

MENDONCA, ERASTO FORTES. The militarization of public schools in the Federal District: the democratic management under threat. Revista Brasileira de Política e Administração da Educação [online]. 2019, vol.35, n.3, pp.594-611.  Epub July 21, 2020. ISSN 2447-4193.  https://doi.org/10.21573/vol35n32019.96052.

The article points out the circumstances that led to the origin of the militarization process of public schools in Brazil, taking as an example the current experience in the state of Goiás, to understand the initiative of the government elected in 2018 of militarizing public schools in the state education system in the Brazilian Federal District. From the regulatory frameworks that support the implementation of a pilot project to be expanded, weaknesses and contradictions of the mechanisms used for the project approval and execution are identified. The article indicates some elements that suggest the confrontation of the characteristics of the project applied in the Federal District with the constitutional and legal principle of the democratic management of public education. It also suggests deepening studies and research to critically analyze this new form of school management organization.

Keywords : Democratic management; the militarization of public schools; educational policy; Federal District.
