Abstract

CAMPOS, PEDRO HUMBERTO FARIA; LOPES, MARIANNA JANNUZZI  and  SANTOS, SÔNIA REGINA MENDES DOS. THE SCHOOL’S SOCIAL REPRESENTATION VIEWED BY STUDENTS FROM ‘ACCELERATION CLASSES’: A STUDY OF SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS. Revista Brasileira de Política e Administração da Educação [online]. 2020, vol.36, n.3, pp.928-948.  Epub Jan 20, 2021. ISSN 2447-4193.  https://doi.org/10.21573/vol36n32020.103736.

The article aims to discuss the “Acceleration Classes” as a public policy, based on social representations of students from the sixth to the ninth year of Elementary Education of Learning Acceleration Classes at a municipal school in Juiz de Fora - MG. With the use of projective materials, interviews, and metaphors, based on the Theory of Social Representations (MOSCOVICI, 2011), the subjects consider them as a strategy to put them out of school in a quick way. By knowing the meanings attributed by the participants to the theme, it is possible to perceive how this symbolism guides their practices. The results suppose the reactivation of exclusion processes, under the fallacy of completed schooling.

Keywords : Social Representations; Acceleration class; Exclusion; Social Inequality.
