Abstract

By investigating how the work of high school principals in Bahia intensifies, the article analyzes the effects of the transformations in the meanings of work in contemporary society and the introduction of the parameters of New Management of Public education. From the analysis of the legal framework and interviews with professionals, it was possible to point out as part of the elements of this process: a) greater centralization of decisions to the detriment of democratic management; b) the naturalization of the accumulation and diversity of tasks.
