Abstract

SIMOES, LINCON RODRIGUES DIAS  and  CIASCA, MARIA ISABEL FILGUEIRAS LIMA. A study on the mission statements of the brazilian federal universities. Revista Brasileira de Política e Administração da Educação [online]. 2023, vol.39, n.1, e123018.  Epub Sep 25, 2023. ISSN 2447-4193.  https://doi.org/10.21573/vol39n12023.123018.

The present article has investigated the lexicon of mission statements from 62 Brazilian federal universities, by using Voyant Tools to identify the most word frequent terms, their co-occurrences, and the context of their application. The results have revealed the presence of three recurring themes: knowledge, formation of people, and development of society. Contrary to studies carried out in other countries, it has been found that the declarations have few elements of distinction among them, except for the region of operation, which may reflect similar organizational formats.

Keywords : Mission Statement; Brazilian Federal Universities; Corpus Linguistics.
