Abstract

SILVA, FLÁVIO DE LIGÓRIO. Narratives about the scarcity of licensed teachers in mathematics in corrente, Piauí, Brazil. Revista Brasileira de Política e Administração da Educação [online]. 2023, vol.39, n.1, e112810.  Epub Sep 25, 2023. ISSN 2447-4193.  https://doi.org/10.21573/vol39n12023.112810.

This study analyzes the relationship between politics and the scarcity of licensed math teachers in Corrente, a town in Piauí State, Brazil. Anchored on qualitative research in the light of sociology and social psychology, we aim to answer the question: what do the narratives of teachers reveal about the scarcity of math teachers in this town? The interviewees answered the open questions in two in-depth interviews. Then, we conducted a content analysis on the responses, according to Bardin (2016), which allowed us to understand the relationship between clientelist politics and the scarcity of math teachers in Corrente.

Keywords : Policy; Clientelism; Teacher shortage.
