The purpose of this article is to analyze the bills in progress since 2019 that seek to revoke law no. 12,612 / 12, that gave Paulo Freire the title of “Patron of Brazilian Education”. To this end, a survey of documents was carried out on the official website of the Chamber of Deputies, researching draft laws (PL’s), with the search engine the words “education”, “school”, “Teacher”. It is a critical-dialectical research, as it seeks to understand the conditions of social existence by adopting a dialectical movement before this process of knowledge, having the measure of social practice as a point of arrival and departure. From this, it was observed that PLs seek, with a mistaken reading of the Brazilian thinker, to diminish its importance in Brazilian education.
