This paper aimed to analyze the Democratic Management Project, carried out in the public school system of the state of São Paulo between 2016 and 2018, based on data produced by research that analyzed the project documents, the proposals sent by the education directorates for the configuration of democratic management in São Paulo state and interviews with those responsible for the project. The analyses showed that the project only contributed to appeasing the conflicts that occurred in the São Paulo public school system in 2015 and to convince the population and the Public Ministry that democratic management was a priority in the educational system.
