The text analyzes the Managerial Efficiency Index (IEG), an instrument of accountability of school principals in Pernambuco, and brings discussions with emphasis on the State Education Plan of Pernambuco (Goal 19), in the light of the National Education Plan - PNE. The methodology is based on the Policy Cycle (BALL, 2013) to analyze how policies are formulated and acted upon in different contexts. The IEG transforms the subjectivity of the principals by regulating them by the market model and overloading them with a new virtual bureaucracy in favor of a school focused on competition, comparison, and performativity.
