Abstract

DOMINGUES, Celma dos Anjos; LAPLANE, Adriana Lia Friszman de  and  SANTHIAGO, Ricardo. MEMORIES ON ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY: CONTRIBUTIONS OF ORAL HISTORY TO THE ANALYSIS OF THE MEDIATION PROCESSES IN THE ACADEMIC PATH OF PERSONS WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS. Rev. Iberoam. Patrim. Histórico-Educativo [online]. 2019, vol.5, e019010.  Epub May 31, 2019. ISSN 2447-746X.  https://doi.org/10.20888/ridphe_r.v5i0.9707.

This essay discusses the contributions of Oral history for the reflection on the procedures of mediation involved in technological change and on the impact of Assistive Technology in the history of education of people with visual impairment. The study deals with the memories of a person with visual impairment, registered in an interview. Investigates the ways she reconstructs the story about the uses of Assistive Technology resources and on ways of mediation involved in these processes. Oral history tools have made it possible to focus on a singular narrative, which intersects with historical, social, cultural and economic contexts, crosscutting the history of educational policies and the history of the achievements to the guarantee of the rights of people with disabilities. The analysis led us to reflect on the processes of mediation and on the conceptions of disability involved in the instruments, understood as technical, but also, as semiotic, with repercussions on the discussion about the role of education in its relationship with Assistive Technology.

Keywords : Oral History; Assistive Technology; Visual impairment.
