Abstract

SILVA, Letícia Maria de Lima  and  MARTINS, Isabel. EDUCATION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF FUTURES IN CONTEMPORARY TIMES: ELEMENTS FOR A DISCURSIVE ANALYSIS OF THE BNCC. Revista LES [online]. 2024, vol.28, n.58, 4841.  Epub Mar 28, 2025. ISSN 2526-8449.  https://doi.org/10.26694/rles.v28i58.4841.

The concept of future has recurrently appeared in national and international curriculum policy texts, as well as in documents from multilateral organizations. In the context of science education, this recurrence is influenced by demands related to directing education towards the role of foundation for the construction of sustainable planetary futures. This recognition motivates interest in investigating the ways in which this concept is treated in the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC), the document that regulates the development of Brazilian curricula from teacher training to the construction of textbooks. This interest is justified by the relevance of a territorialized look at possible emerging trends on the global scene, in order to identify particularities, as well as local potentials and limitations in working with problems that go beyond the national level. In this investigation, a textual analysis was carried out based on the theoreticalmethodological framework of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) based on excerpts from the BNCC that recruit the future specifically aimed at dealing with training for contemporary times. The results discuss formulations and textual aspects of the BNCC in relation to the situation in which its elaboration and promulgation takes place, the neoliberal influences on the document, as well as rising educational demands in the face of a global crisis scenario. In particular, it is clear that, with regard to objectives related to environmental sustainability, entrepreneurship and job insertion are prioritized to the detriment of the common good or the appreciation of difference.
