Abstract

BITTENCOURT, Bethânia  and  BITTENCOURT, Fernanda Irene. THE TARGET AUDIENCE OF SPECIAL EDUCATION AND PARTICIPATION IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS: PROPOSALS FOR THE DEMOCRATIC EXERCISE DEMOCRÁTICO. Revista LES [online]. 2024, vol.28, n.58, 54351.  Epub Mar 28, 2025. ISSN 2526-8449.  https://doi.org/10.26694/rles.v28i58.5435.

This article discusses the participation of Special Education target students in the spaces and processes of democratic management based on the gap observed in Bittencourt's (2023) research. This oversight is due to the lack of mention of the participation of these students in the democratic management regulations of Brazilian state public education networks. The objective is to provide support to school subjects, managers and policy makers through actions and strategies to expand democratic participation, accessibility and minimization of barriers in order to eliminate ableist practices, based on studies by authors in the field of Education Special. Such guidelines concern the spatial, material and time conditions for democracy in public schools, so that students who are often made invisible with regard to participation in groups, assemblies, collegiate bodies, elections, school councils and in the construction of the political pedagogical project, be active actors in these spaces and processes. We consider the present study to be non-occluded, conducive to expansion, collaboration, cooperation and co-participation of other subjects focused on the topic.
