Teaching as a preceptor has been gaining prominence in the scenario of human resources training in health in Brazil. This research is an integrative review that aimed to investigate the concepts and challenges of the professional practice of physiotherapy graduates at the beginning of their teaching careers. The BVS database was used to select the articles, and the sample for this review consisted of eight articles. After analyzing the research included in the review, the results of the studies indicated that it is essential to develop actions for the training and didactic-pedagogical qualification of preceptors, in order to minimize fragmentation in the teaching and learning process of students.
