Com base nos dados da Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra Domiciliar - PNAD de 1982 e em seu suplemento especial sobre educação, descrevem-se as trajetórias educacionais dos grupos de cor branca, preta e parda, onde se evidenciam as desvantagens no acesso à escola e no ritmo de progressão escolar por crianças não brancas, que resultam em profundas desigualdades educacionais em nossa sociedade.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The article shows the unequal appropriating of educational opportunities by whites and non whites in Brazil, pointing to cumulative effects of racial discrimination in the scope of formal education. Based on data from 1982 PNAD (National Home Sampling Survey) and its special supplement on education, the article describes the schooling paths ofwhite, black and coloured groups, showing clear disadvantages of no whites - in terms of access to school and of rythm of school progress - which result in deep educational inequalities in Brazilian society.]]></p></abstract>
