Examinando questões como a formação de pesquisadores, o financiamento, as relações entre redes, pesquisa educacional e elaboração de políticas públicas, apontam-se relevantes melhorias necessárias no quadro institucional para aumentar a capacidade de a pesquisa educacional lidar com aqueles desafios, tendo sempre em mira a preocupação com as oportunidades dos setores desprivilegiados e com a construção da ordem democrática na região.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Drawing on the main trends identified in the approaches to educational research in the continent, from the 60's through current days, this paper discusses main conceptual challenges to be faced by research in the years to come, stressing and illustrating the need to overcome the current gap between macro and micro approaches to educational phenomena. The addresing of issues such as training of researchers, funding, and relationships between networks, educational research and policy making points to key improvements required in institutional framework, so as to increase research capacity to meet those challenges, having as central concerns the opportunities for the underprivileged and the building of a democratic order in the region.]]></p></abstract>
