<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[This paper points to the unawareness that research on social movements in behalf of education shows that their ranks are mostly filled by women both in their struggles and in public school teaching. It indicates some contributions that theories on gender social relations may lend to the comprehension of the struggles for education, of the movements of mothers and teachers, and of the interaction between schools and the students' families.]]></p></abstract>
