A história da disciplina, no entanto, está marcada por intensos debates teórico-metodológicos para a definição do conceito de cultura. Trata-se de uma ciência pré-paradigmática, no sentido oferecido por Kuhn (1998). Ao mesmo tempo, esta condição não a impediu de se transformar em matéria obrigatória em praticamente todos os cursos de graduação no Brasil; inclusive nos maiores, como o Direito. A popularização da antropologia, principalmente nas universidades particulares, tem promovido uma série de diálogos entre antropólogos, alguns recém-formados, e estudantes que não serão antropólogos. Embora os debates ocorram em contextos de ensino de antropologia, é possível transformá-los em espaços de pesquisa antropológica. O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar os resultados de uma pesquisa sobre os significados da cultura, realizada a partir do ponto de vista de estudantes recém-matriculados em um curso de Direito de uma faculdade particular, situada na cidade do Rio de Janeiro.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Anthropology is the science of culture. The history of the course, however, is marked by intense theoretical and methodological debates to define the concept of culture. This is a pre-paradigmatic science, in the sense offered by Kuhn (1998). At the same time, this condition did not prevent it from becoming a compulsory subject in almost all undergraduate programs in Brazil, including the largest ones, such as law. The popularization of anthropology, especially in private universities, has promoted a series of dialogues between anthropologists, some recent graduates and students who will not be anthropologists. Although the debates occur in contexts of anthropology teaching, it is possible to turn them into spaces of anthropological research. The purpose of this paper is to present the results of a research on the meanings of culture, made from the point of view of students recently enrolled in a law program in a private college, located in Rio de Janeiro.]]></p></abstract>
