A pesquisa, de cunho historiogr&#225;fico, teve como foco de an&#225;lise os modos de ver a crian&#231;a, a fam&#237;lia e a escola e suas rela&#231;&#245;es com o processo de produ&#231;&#227;o dos ent&#227;o denominados &#8220;alunos problema&#8221;. Em uma &#233;poca em que a psicologia escolar limitava-se &#224; classifica&#231;&#227;o e encaminhamento dos alunos, Joel Martins (1970) questiona os limites impostos por um olhar eminentemente cl&#237;nico-terap&#234;utico sobre a crian&#231;a e a fam&#237;lia, chamando aten&#231;&#227;o para os aspectos intraescolares de produ&#231;&#227;o das dificuldades dos alunos, dentre os quais, destacam-se: o trabalho do professor em sala de aula e sua percep&#231;&#227;o sobre os alunos, os conhecimentos e saberes sobre a condi&#231;&#227;o f&#237;sica, intelectual, ps&#237;quica ou social da crian&#231;a, as rela&#231;&#245;es entre escola e fam&#237;lia, e o car&#225;ter ativo da crian&#231;a em seu processo de participa&#231;&#227;o e aprendizagem na escola. Ao discutir a realidade do &#8220;aluno-problema&#8221; a partir de sua rela&#231;&#227;o com a din&#226;mica escolar, o autor rompe com uma vis&#227;o patologizante das diferen&#231;as na escola, trazendo importante contribui&#231;&#227;o para o campo da Psicologia da Educa&#231;&#227;o.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This article aims to discuss the concept of &#8220;student problem&#8221; by Joel Martins in his work entitled &#8220;O Psic&#243;logo Escolar&#8221; (The School Psychologist), published in 1970 by the Revista de Psicologia Normal e Patol&#243;gica do Instituto de Psicologia da PUC/SP (Journal of Normal and Pathological Psychology of the Psychology Institute of PUC / SP). The research, based on a historiographical methodology, focused on the analysis of the ways of seeing the child, the family and the school as well as its relations to the production of the so-called &#8220;student problem&#8221;. In a period that school psychology was limited to the classification and referral of students, Joel Martins (1970) questions the limits imposed by an eminently clinical-therapeutic vision of child and family, drawing attention to the inner aspects of school dynamics in the production of student difficulties. The main aspects related to the production of the &#8220;problem student&#8221; in the work of Joel Martins (1970) were: the role of teachers in the classroom, their perception and attitudes towards the students, the expertise and knowledge about the physical, intellectual, psychological and social development of the students, the relations between school and family and the active character of children in their participation and learning process in school. As a result, Joel Martins (1970) breaks with a pathologizing view of students differences in school, bringing an important contribution to the field of Psychology of Education.]]></p></abstract>
