O livro de catecismo é entendido como objeto cultural, tal como propõe Chartier (1976; 1994; 2003), Darnton (1990) e Toledo (2001), cuja produção sempre acompanhou as diferentes conjunturas sociais e políticas que marcaram as sociedades em seus diferentes tempos, se reconfigurando conforme novas demandas iam sendo produzidas. Com isso, buscou-se compreender qual é a representação dessas mudanças nas práticas educativas católicas no Brasil e como esse objeto aproxima a Igreja do diálogo com a modernidade pedagógica? Buscou-se, ainda, compreender tais mudanças no cenário educacional brasileiro, atentando para as mudanças dos projetos editoriais associada aos debates educacionais e ao mercado editorial, considerando sua modernização como uma estratégia de fortalecimento do campo religioso católico no cenário educacional, mas também na sua função social de recatolicização da sociedade pelo catecismo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This article deals with a specific class of prints, the Catholic catechisms, intending to analyse its forms and meanings in History.The catechism's book is understood as a cultural object, as proposed by Chartier (1976; 1994; 2003), Darnton (1990) and Toledo (2001),whose production has always followed the different social and political conjunctures that marked the societies at their different times, reconfiguring itself as new demands were being produced.Based in these ideas, we sought to understand the representations of these changes in Catholic educational practices in Brazil and how this object approaches the Church to the dialogue with the pedagogical modernity?We also sought to understand these changes in the Brazilian educational scenario, noting changes of editorial projects related to the educational debates and the editorial market, considering its modernization as a strategy to strengthen the Catholic religious field in the educational setting, but also in their social function of reconnecting society to Catholicism through cathecism.]]></p></abstract>
