Discutimos a trajet&#243;ria da CEAA, as caracter&#237;sticas das escolas noturnas da cidade e as representa&#231;&#245;es constru&#237;das e divulgadas pela imprensa sobre os sujeitos analfabetos e o analfabetismo. Consultamos jornais, di&#225;rios de classe, livros de matr&#237;culas, atas de reuni&#245;es das escolas noturnas e livro de ponto dos professores. A CEAA produziu representa&#231;&#245;es depreciativas do analfabeto; os jornais, por sua vez, enfatizaram essas representa&#231;&#245;es e as incrementaram, visto que eram utilizados como estrat&#233;gia para se conseguir volunt&#225;rios e comover empresas e institui&#231;&#245;es para atuar no que seria &#8220;a salva&#231;&#227;o nacional&#8221;. Para al&#233;m dessas representa&#231;&#245;es, o desprest&#237;gio dos sujeitos analfabetos se expressava tamb&#233;m na precariedade das escolas noturnas que os atendiam. ]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  This research aimed at learning about the history of education of adolescents and adults in Uberl&#226;ndia-MG from 1947 to 1963, when the Education Campaign of Adolescents and Adults (CEAA) was introduced nationwide. We discuss CEAA&#8217;s history, the characteristics of night schools in the city, and representations built and published in the press on illiterate subjects and illiteracy as well. We have consulted newspapers, class diaries, enrollment books, meeting minutes of night schools and teachers registering books. CEAA produced derogatory representations of the illiterate; newspapers, in turn, emphasized those representations and increased them, since they were used as a strategy to achieve voluntaries and move companies and institutions to act in what would be a &#8220;national salvation&#8221;. In addition to those representations, the unimportance of illiterate subjects was also expressed in the precariousness of night schools. ]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  El objetivo de esta investigaci&#243;n fue aprehender la historia de la educaci&#243;n de adolescentes y adultos en el municipio de Uberl&#226;ndia-MG en el periodo de 1947 - 1963, cuando fue deflagrada e implantada la Campa&#241;a de Educaci&#243;n de Adolescentes y Adultos (CEAA) en todo territorio nacional. Discutimos la trayectoria de la CEAA, las caracter&#237;sticas de las escuelas nocturnas de la ciudad y las representaciones construidas y divulgadas por la prensa sobre los sujetos analfabetos y el analfabetismo. Consultamos peri&#243;dicos, diarios de clases, libros de matr&#237;culas, actas de reuniones de las escuelas nocturnas y libro de asistencia de los profesores. La CEAA produjo representaciones depreciativas del analfabeto; los peri&#243;dicos, por vez, enfatizaron esas representaciones y las incrementaron, visto que eran utilizados como estrategia para conseguirse voluntarios y conmover empresas e instituciones para actuar en el que ser&#237;a &#8220;la salvaci&#243;n nacional&#8221;. Para m&#225;s all&#225; de esas representaciones, el desprestigio de los sujetos analfabetos se expresaba tambi&#233;n en la precariedad de las escuelas nocturnas que los atend&#237;an. ]]></p></abstract>
