Naquela &#233;poca cunhou-se o conceito de Estado educador -defendido pelos expoentes da educa&#231;&#227;o p&#250;blica-, o qual tinha como contrapartida a liberdade de ensino pela parte dos setores ligados &#224; Igreja Cat&#243;lica. O s&#233;culo XX come&#231;a com a influ&#234;ncia da Escola Nova no pa&#237;s, especialmente do pensamento de Dewey, que vem ao pais pela interven&#231;&#227;o do representante laico, Dario Salas. O objeto deste artigo, de car&#225;ter hist&#243;rico, &#233; assinalar o pensamento laico presente nos Pr&#234;mios Nacionais de Educa&#231;&#227;o e relacion&#225;-los com a pedagogia de Dewey; entre eles se encontram Roberto Munizaga (1979), Luis G&#243;mez Catal&#225;n (1983), Marino Pizarro Pizarro (1987), Francisco Hern&#225;n Vera Lamperein (2001) e H&#233;ctor Fernando Guti&#233;rrez Mu&#241;oz (2005). Eles s&#227;o importantes exponentes da educa&#231;&#227;o p&#250;blica da segunda metade do s&#233;culo passado no pais.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen La educaci&#243;n p&#250;blica se inicia en Chile pr&#225;cticamente con la Rep&#250;blica en el siglo XIX. En aquella &#233;poca se acu&#241;&#243; el concepto de estado docente -defendido por los exponentes de la educaci&#243;n p&#250;blica-, el cual tuvo como contrapartida el de la libertad de ense&#241;anza por parte de sectores ligados a la Iglesia Cat&#243;lica. El siglo XX comienza con la influencia de la Escuela Nueva en el pa&#237;s, especialmente en el pensamiento de Dewey, tra&#237;do al pa&#237;s por un representante laico, Dar&#237;o Salas. El objeto de esta art&#237;culo, de car&#225;cter hist&#243;rico, es se&#241;alar el pensamiento laico presente en los Premios Nacionales de Educaci&#243;n de ese sector y relacionarlos con la pedagog&#237;a de Dewey; entre ellos se encuentran Roberto Munizaga (1979), Luis G&#243;mez Catal&#225;n (1983), Marino Pizarro Pizarro (1987), Francisco Hern&#225;n Vera Lamperein (2001) y H&#233;ctor Fernando Guti&#233;rrez Mu&#241;oz (2005). Ellos son importantes exponentes de la educaci&#243;n p&#250;blica de la segunda mitad del siglo pasado en el pa&#237;s. ]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Public education is starts in Chile practically with the Republic in the 19th century. In that time coined the concept of teaching State -championed by the proponents of public education-, which had as its counterpart of the freedom of education by sectors linked to the Catholic Church. The 20th century begins with the influence of the New School in the country, especially in the Dewey&#8217;s thought, brought to the country by a lay representative secular, Dario Salas. The subject of this article, of historical character, is point out the secular thought present in the national awards for education in this sector and relates them to the Dewey&#8217;s pedagogy; among them is found Roberto Munizaga (1979), Luis G&#243;mez Catalan (1983), marine Pizarro Pizarro (1987), Francisco Hernan Vera Lamperein (2001) and Hector Fernando Guti&#233;rrez Mu&#241;oz (2005). They are important exponents of the education public in the second half of the century last in the country.]]></p></abstract>
