Um programa de mentoria pode favorecer a persistência ao amenizar as dificuldades na transição para a Universidade. Partindo disso, realizou-se um estudo exploratório em um programa de mentoria no curso de Licenciatura em Física da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Fundamentada no Modelo de Motivação da Persistência do Estudante, de Vincent Tinto, a pesquisa, conduzida por meio da aplicação de um questionário e da realização de entrevistas, foi dirigida pela seguinte questão de pesquisa: Como as ações promovidas por um programa de mentoria influenciam na motivação para a persistência de licenciandos em Física? Identificou-se que as ações podem influenciar nas motivações para persistir dos calouros na medida em que, principalmente, os mentores: os preparam para avaliações; disponibilizam informações do curso e da instituição; e inspiram e motivam o calouro para continuar na graduação.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN: Las dificultades para adaptarse al contexto universitario a menudo influyen en la motivación de los novatos para persistir. Un programa de mentoría, al paliar las dificultades en la transición a la Universidad, puede favorecer la persistencia. En base a esto, se realizó un estudio exploratorio en un programa de mentoría en la carrera de profesorado en Física en la Universidad Federal del Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Con base en el Modelo de Motivación para la Persistencia del Estudiante, de Vincent Tinto, la investigación, realizada a través de la aplicación de un cuestionario y la realización de entrevistas, estuvo orientada por la siguiente pregunta de investigación: ¿Cómo influyen las acciones que promueven un programa de mentoría en la motivación para la persistencia de los estudiantes de la carrera de Física? Se identificó que las acciones pueden influir en las motivaciones de los estudiantes de primer año para persistir especialmente cuando los mentores: los prepararan para las evaluaciones; los proporcionan información sobre la carrera y la institución; y los inspiran y motivan a continuar en el grado.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT: Difficulties in adapting to the university context often influence freshmen&#8217;s motivation to persist. A mentoring program can promote persistence by easing the difficulties in the transition to the University. Based on this, a exploratory study was carried out in a mentoring program in a physics teacher training undergraduate course, in the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). For this, a questionnaire was applied and interviews were carried out based on the Vincent Tinto&#8217;s Model of Student Motivation and Persistence. The research was guided by the following research question: How the actions promoted by a mentoring program influence the motivation for the persistence of undergraduates in Physics? It was identified that the mentoring can influence freshmen&#8217;s motivations to persist especially when mentors: prepare them for assessments; provide course and institution information; and inspire and motivate the freshman to continue on to graduation.]]></p></abstract>
