Como únicos intérpretes do texto sagrado, a versão ortodoxa se apoia em um fundamentalismo que entorpece a capacidade crítica. Quem se atrever a dar outra interpretação passa a ser apontado como satânico. Uma das referências do fundamentalismo religioso está no pietismo europeu que, aos poucos, migra para os Estados Unidos. Mais recentemente, esse fundamentalismo religioso chega na América Latina. No Brasil, ele aparece sob a denominação de &#8220;igreja&#8221;, com distintas e variadas denominações. Atualmente, a noção de fundamentalismo abarca outros setores da vida social, política, cultural e econômica. No horizonte de uma economia neoliberal, &#8220;tudo&#8221;, ao menos implicitamente, se transforma em mercadoria. O triunfalismo do mercado passa a considerar a fé também um produto à la carte. O neoliberalismo é, então, a prospectiva para a concentração cada vez maior da riqueza, tornando a fé um instrumento que favorece uma minoria, cada vez mais avantajada. No caso do Brasil, a proliferação de &#8220;igrejas&#8221; consolida ainda mais as desigualdades sociais e econômicas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The lasciviousness of religious discourses engenders an astonished capacity to attract and pervert the faithful. As the only interpreters of the sacred text, the orthodox version relies on a fundamentalism that dulls critical capacity. Anyone who dares to give another interpretation is considered satanic. One of the references of religious fundamentalism is European pietism, which gradually migrates to the United States. More recently, this religious fundamentalism has arrived in Latin America. In Brazil, it appears under the name &#8220;church&#8221;, with different and varied denominations. Currently, the notion of fundamentalism encompasses other sectors of social, political, cultural and economic life. On the horizon of a neoliberal economy, &#8220;everything&#8221;, at least implicitly, becomes a commodity. The triumphalism of the market now considers faith in an à la carte product. Neoliberalism is, then, the prospect for the increasing concentration of wealth, turning faith into an instrument that favors a minority, which is increasingly more advantageous. In the case of Brazil, the proliferation of &#8220;churches&#8221; further consolidates social and economic inequalities.]]></p></abstract>
