Esse foco exclusivo nessas disciplinas leva os estudantes a valoriz&#225;-las em detrimento de Ci&#234;ncias. Neste estudo investigou-se a percep&#231;&#227;o dos jovens, na regi&#227;o do grande ABC (S&#227;o Paulo), quanto &#224; import&#226;ncia das disciplinas estudadas cotidianamente. Os resultados mostraram que os alunos atribuem grande relev&#226;ncia &#224;s disciplinas de PM, induzidos pelas a&#231;&#245;es dos professores, da escola e das redes de ensino, que buscam melhores posi&#231;&#245;es no ranking do IDEB. Esses dados s&#227;o importantes para promover discuss&#245;es entre escolas e secretarias de educa&#231;&#227;o sobre pol&#237;ticas educacionais brasileiras.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The Basic Education Development Index has been monitoring the Fundamental Education, focusing on the subjects of Portuguese and Mathematics (PM). This exclusive focus on PM has taken students to overvalue them in detriment of Science. In this study, it was investigated students&#8217; perception on the relevance of school subjects studied at daily-basis. Results showed that the students attributed great importance to the PM disciplines, induced by their teachers, school and department of education&#8217; actions, who seek better positions on the IDEB ranking. These data are important to promote discussions between schools and education departments on Brazilian educational policies.]]></p></abstract>
