Participaram 31 alunos da região Nordeste do país, matriculados no Ensino Fundamental nos anos iniciais, sendo do gênero masculino e feminino, com idade entre 6 e 11 anos. O estudo foi baseado em um questionário elaborado por Souza (2010), composto por 24 questões. Os resultados mostraram que, apesar de altas taxas de desconhecimento encontradas, há um entendimento da maioria dos alunos sobre a necessidade de inserir as pessoas com Transtorno do Espectro Autista no convívio social e nos ambientes comuns. Entretanto, foi encontrada uma taxa considerável de pessoas que são desfavoráveis ao convívio com esse público, mostrando o quanto é urgente a conscientização dentro dos ambientes escolares a respeito do tema abordado neste artigo. Ao longo do estudo, foi encontrada dificuldade na tratativa do tema autismo, mesmo dentro dos ambientes escolares, onde o convívio é diário. Tendo em vista que o desconhecimento a respeito do autismo é alto, sem as concepções adequadas sendo passadas aos estudantes, estes podem desenvolver concepções equivocadas e até preconceituosas a respeito do transtorno. Por isso, é necessário que um trabalho de conscientização seja feito, tendo como objetivo desenvolver as concepções adequadas e difundir o conhecimento a respeito do tema autismo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This article aimed to analyze the perception of children and pre-adolescents about Autism Spectrum Disorder. 31 students enrolled in elementary school, from the Northeast region of the country, participated, being male and female and aged between 6 and 11 years old. The study was based on a questionnaire prepared by Souza (2010), consisting of 24 questions. The study showed that, despite the high rates of lack of knowledge found, there is an understanding among the majority of students about the need to include people with Autism Spectrum Disorder in social life and in common environments. However, a considerable rate of people were found to be unfavorable to interacting with this public, showing how urgent it is to raise awareness within school environments regarding the topic addressed. Throughout the study, a difficulty was found in dealing with the topic of autism, even within school environments, where there is daily interaction, since the lack of knowledge about it is high, and without adequate conceptions given to students, they can develop mistaken conceptions. about autism, and even prejudice. Therefore, it is necessary that awareness work is carried out, with the aim of developing proper conceptions and spreading knowledge about the topic of autism.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Este artículo tuvo como objetivo analizar la percepción de niños y preadolescentes sobre el Trastorno del Espectro Autista. Participaron 31 estudiantes de la región Nordeste del país matriculados en la Enseñanza Primaria en los años iniciales, siendo hombres y mujeres y con edades entre 6 y 11 años. El estudio se basó en un cuestionario elaborado por Souza (2010) que consta de 24 preguntas. El estudio demostró que, a pesar de los altos índices de desconocimiento encontrados, la mayoría de los estudiantes comprenden la necesidad de incluir a las personas con Trastorno del Espectro Autista en la vida social y en los entornos comunes. Sin embargo, se encontró que un índice considerable de personas se muestra desfavorable a la interacción con este público, lo que muestra cuán urgente es generar conciencia en los ambientes escolares sobre el tema tratado en este artículo. A lo largo del estudio, se encontraron dificultades en el tratamiento del tema del autismo, incluso en ambientes escolares donde la interacción es cotidiana. Considerando que el desconocimiento sobre el autismo es alto, sin que se brinden conceptos adecuados a los estudiantes, estos pueden desarrollar concepciones erróneas e incluso prejuiciosas sobre el trastorno. Por ello, es necesario que se realice un trabajo de sensibilización, con el objetivo de desarrollar concepciones adecuadas y difundir conocimientos sobre el tema del autismo.]]></p></abstract>
