Nosso propósito é o de reacender o debate sobre a escola e o mundo rural, tendo em vista o grande desenvolvimento tecnológico junto à crescente miséria da população que vive e trabalha neste espaço, evidenciando a desigualdade e a barbárie presente na sociedade brasileira. A escola, que nasceu com intenção de promover o desenvolvimento social, de conter a migração para as cidades, de levar a cultura urbana para o atrasado colono, precisa ser repensada, por meio da superação da divisão campo e cidade e com base nas experiências políticas e educativas que vêm sendo construídas pelos trabalhadores rurais organizados.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The article reflects upon schools in rural regions with a focus on three issues: the characteristics of rural regions in Santa Catarina State, the transformation taking place there and the meaning of school. The purpose of the article is to stimulate discussion about schools in rural regions, considering the significant technical developments and the increasing poverty of the rural population. It emphasizes the inequality and the brutality of Brazilian society. Schools, which were created to promote social development; reduce migration to urban areas and take urban culture to the underdeveloped rural population; need to be discussed to overcome the separation between urban and rural environments. This should be based on the political and education experiences being constructed by the rural workers’ organizations.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[El presente artículo propone una reflexión sobre la escuela rural. Para tal fin, presenta tres ejes: las características del medio rural catarinense; las transformaciones que están aconteciendo en ese espacio; y el sentido de la escuela. Nuestro propósito es el de reanimar el debate en relación con la escuela y el mundo rural, considerando el amplio desarrollo tecnológico y la creciente miseria de la población que vive y trabaja en el campo, manifestando las desigualdades y la barbarie presentes en la sociedad brasilera. La escuela que nació con la promesa de promover el desarrollo social, de contener la inmigración rural hacia las ciudades, de llevar la cultura urbana para el atrasado colono, precisa ser repensada a partir de una perspectiva que supere de la división del campo y la ciudad, asimilando las experiencias políticas y educacionales que están siendo construidas por los trabajadores rurales organizados.]]></p></abstract>
