Examina - se o modo como estes alunos constroem uma experiência no cotidiano escolar cada vez mais situado na confluência de dois processos sociais complexos: de um lado, as relações com a escolaridade em contexto de expansão das matrículas da educação básica e, ao mesmo tempo, de crise das possibilidades de mobilidade social via escola; de outro, a disseminação da indisciplina, da violência e da insegurança na vida escolar, experiências que conformam práticas e a construção da identidade pessoal.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[This article presents part of a study undertaken from 2001-2002 in the city of São Paulo, about the life of young students in public high schools within the context of broad social changes in Brazilian society. It examines the way that these students construct a daily school experience that is increasingly situated in a confluence of two complex social processes. It considers their relations with schooling in the context of the expansion of enrollment in elementary education. The article also considers the crisis in the opportunity for social mobility via education and the rise of indiscipline, violence and insecurity in school life, experiences that mold practices and the construction of personal identity.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Este artículo retrata un aspecto de la investigación sobre la vida de jóvenes estudiantes de la enseñanza secundaría en un marco de importantes alteraciones de la sociedad brasileña, realizada en la ciudad de São Paulo entre 2001 y 2002. Se examinó el modo como estos alumnos construyen una experiencia en el cotidiano escolar cada vez más situado en la convergencia de dos procesos sociales complejos. Por una parte, las relaciones con la escolaridad en contexto de crecimiento de oportunidades de acceso a la educación y, al mismo tiempo, de crisis de posibilidades de movilidad social. Por otra parte, la diseminación de la indisciplina, la violencia y la inseguridad en la vida escolar, prácticas que marcan la construcción de la identidad personal.]]></p></abstract>
