Partimos da discuss&#227;o conceptual sobre o papel formativo e credencialista das institui&#231;&#245;es escolares de enfermagem, em articula&#231;&#227;o com o Estado, para compreender a constru&#231;&#227;o identit&#225;ria deste grupo, caraterizando os sujeitos que frequentaram a Escola de Enfermagem de Castelo Branco/Dr. Lopes Dias (Portugal), no arco temporal previsto. A metodologia assumida na constru&#231;&#227;o deste artigo &#233; a an&#225;lise s&#243;cio-hist&#243;rica, numa perspetiva diacr&#243;nica. A Hist&#243;ria da Educa&#231;&#227;o e a Sociologia das Profiss&#245;es constituem os principais dom&#237;nios cient&#237;ficos em que o trabalho assenta. ]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This work intends to interpret the development process of nurses professional group, between 1940&#8217;s and 1980&#8217;s. We set out from the conceptual discussion on the formative and credencialist role in schools of nursing, in conjunction with the role of State, to understand the identity construction of this group featuring the subjects who attended nursing school of Castelo Branco/Dr. Lopes Dias (Portugal). The methodology adopted in the construction of this article is a socio-historical analysis in a diachronic perspective. The history of Education and the Sociology of Professions are the main scientific areas in which this work is based.]]></p></abstract>
