Em Santa Catarina, há classes hospitalares desde o ano de 1999. A Classe Hospitalar do Hospital Infantil Joana de Gusmão, em Florianópolis, foi pioneira em instituir um atendimento escolar, tendo como princípio o desenvolvimento de atividades curriculares. O texto apresenta e discute o ensino de Ciências desenvolvido na classe hospitalar, em uma experiência pioneira de um grupo de pesquisa em integração com equipe pedagógica do hospital. A pesquisa foi qualitativa do tipo estudo de caso e desenvolveu-se com o objetivo de caracterizar a atividade docente neste espaço educacional. Apresentamos resultados referentes a estratégias de ensino e atividades didáticas utilizadas. Na análise, apontamos problemas e possíveis caminhos para o desenvolvimento de práticas pedagógicas neste tipo de ambiente escolar. Ao final do trabalho, apontamos temáticas e recursos com maior sucesso de uso neste contexto.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[School teaching for hospitalized children was established in Brazil through the Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente. In the State of Santa Catarina it went in effect in 1999. The Joana de Gusmão Children’s Hospital in Florianópolis was pioneer in establishing classes for children from 5th to 8th grades, following the State curricular directives for basic education. The present article describes the methods and activities adopted for Science teaching in that setting. It resulted from a qualitative type of research intended to describe the performance of teachers as a case study, as a pioneer joint experience of a research group of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina and the hospital’s pedagogic sector. The authors identified problems and possible ways to develop pedagogic practices adapted to be used in the hospital environment.]]></p></abstract>
