Os participantes são na sua maioria do sexo feminino, tendo como nível predominante de formação o mestrado e o doutoramento, sendo a maior parte da área de Humanidades e Ciências Sociais. As idades variaram entre 22 e 73 anos, situando-se o tempo de docência entre seis meses e 39 anos. Os resultados sugerem que as tecnologias digitais mais utilizadas nos dois países foram o computador, aplicativos como editor de texto, navegadores de web, powerpoint, PDF, telemóvel, ambientes virtuais de aprendizagem e projetor multimídia. Especificamente no que diz respeito à utilização da internet, a maioria de docentes relata utilizar diariamente para e-mail, notícias e criar documentos. Quanto à literacia digital, identificou-se uma competência maior para um uso instrumental das tecnologias do que para a gestão pedagógica. Considerando o conjunto de resultados, importa destacar a similaridade da competência digital dos docentes universitários dos países investigados, indicando a necessidade de se desenvolverem programas de formação voltados para a gestão pedagógica com recurso às tecnologias digitais.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: This study is part of a wider research project about higher education teachers’ achievement with digital technologies in their teaching activities, in Brazil and Portugal, and examines teachers’ skills and frequency in using these resources. Participants are mostly women, with a Master’s degree or a PhD, and from the field of humanities and social sciences. With an age range between 22 and 73 years, and teaching experience from six months to 39 years. Results suggest that the most used digital technologies in both countries are the computer, applications such as text editors, web browsers, power point, PDF, the mobile phone, virtual learning environments, and the multimedia projector. Regarding specifically the use of the internet, most teachers report that they access the internet on a daily basis to check/ log in their email, to search for news, and to create new documents. Concerning teachers’ digital literacy, higher levels of proficiency were found for an instrumental use of technologies when compared to the use for teaching. Based on these results, it is important to acknowledge similarities between teachers from both countries, which suggest the need to develop training programs for teaching with digital technologies.]]></p></abstract>
