</abstract>

The paper reflects on pictures as images that can tell stories and represent places, so that they can translate the past into our present. The paper states that pictures show their makers’ perceptions. As a case study, we present the context that originated Tony Miyasaka photographic production, in order to understand the history of the city of Ribeirão Preto, in São Paulo State, through pictures representing its space and places.
</abstract>
