Pesquisadores e pol&#237;ticas p&#250;blicas educacionais no Brasil e no mundo t&#234;m destacado a import&#226;ncia de se explorar a pluralidade de pensamentos acerca de quest&#245;es controversas. Incialmente, em uma perspectiva intercultural cr&#237;tica, argumentamos que, dada a diversidade de vis&#245;es de mundo, cren&#231;as religiosas, g&#234;neros, orienta&#231;&#245;es sexuais e ra&#231;as nas sociedades contempor&#226;neas e nas escolas, o ensino e o debate de controv&#233;rsias na educa&#231;&#227;o b&#225;sica se tornam alvo de disputas. Se, de acordo com Hess (2009), a pr&#243;pria defini&#231;&#227;o do que &#233; ou n&#227;o controverso j&#225; &#233;, em si, permeada de conflitos, determinar quais desses temas ser&#227;o inclu&#237;dos nos curr&#237;culos escolares tamb&#233;m &#233;. Tal cen&#225;rio se mostra ainda mais complexo em nosso pa&#237;s nos &#250;ltimos anos pelo avan&#231;o de pautas conservadoras no congresso nacional e de projetos de lei como o Escola sem Partido, tendo em vista, principalmente, as concep&#231;&#245;es moralistas de sexualidade e as cren&#231;as religiosas de grupos conservadores. Nesse sentido, embora os defensores dessas bandeiras argumentem uma pretensa abertura &#224; pluralidade de ideias, a an&#225;lise de seus argumentos revela profunda rejei&#231;&#227;o a valores e conhecimentos distintos daqueles por eles defendidos. Essa postura mostra-se amea&#231;adora ao ensino e ao desenvolvimento de estrat&#233;gias pedag&#243;gicas que abordem temas controvertidos na escola b&#225;sica. Assim, indicamos possibilidades para pensar a supera&#231;&#227;o desses obst&#225;culos em sala de aula.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT This paper presents a theoretical reflection on the teaching of controversial issues and its current challenges. Researchers and educational public policies in Brazil and elsewhere highlight the importance of exploring the plurality of thoughts about controversial issues. Firstly, from a Intercultural perspective, we argue that, given the diversity of world views, religious beliefs, genders, sexual orientations and races in contemporary societies and schools, the teaching and debate of controversies in basic education become subject of disputes. If, according to Hess (2009), the very definition of what is or is not controversial is pervaded by conflicts as it is determining which ones will be included in school curricula. Such scenario has become even more complex in our country in the last years by the advance of a conservative agenda in the national congress and bill projects like &#8220;School without Party&#8221;. In this sense, although the defenders of these ideas defend a pretended openness to the plurality of ideas, the analysis of their arguments reveals a profound rejection of values and knowledge distinct from those they defend. This posture is threatening to the teaching and the development of pedagogical strategies that approach controversial subjects in the basic school. Thus, we indicate possibilities for overcoming these obstacles in the classroom.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN El presente trabajo se configura como una reflexi&#243;n te&#243;rica sobre la ense&#241;anza de cuestiones controvertidas y sus desaf&#237;os actuales. Investigadores y pol&#237;ticas p&#250;blicas educativas en Brasil y en el mundo han destacado la importancia de explorar la pluralidad de pensamientos acerca de cuestiones controvertidas. En una perspectiva intercultural cr&#237;tica, argumentamos que, dada la diversidad de visiones del mundo, creencias religiosas, g&#233;neros, orientaciones sexuales y razas en las sociedades contempor&#225;neas y en las escuelas, la ense&#241;anza y el debate de controversias en la educaci&#243;n b&#225;sica se convierten en objeto de disputas. Si, de acuerdo con Hess (2009), la propia definici&#243;n de lo que es o no controvertida ya es, en s&#237;, permeada de conflictos, tambi&#233;n lo es determinar cu&#225;les de estos temas ser&#225;n incluidos en los curr&#237;culos escolares. Tal escenario se muestra a&#250;n m&#225;s complejo en nuestro pa&#237;s en los &#250;ltimos a&#241;os por el avance de pautas conservadoras en el congreso nacional y de proyectos de ley como la Escuela sin Partido, teniendo en cuenta, principalmente, las concepciones moralistas de sexualidad y las creencias religiosas de grupos conservadores. En ese sentido, aunque los defensores de esas banderas defiendan una pretendida apertura a la pluralidad de ideas, el an&#225;lisis de sus argumentos revela un profundo rechazo a valores y conocimientos distintos de aquellos por ellos defendidos. Esta postura se muestra amenazadora para la ense&#241;anza y el desarrollo de estrategias pedag&#243;gicas que aborden temas controvertidos en la escuela b&#225;sica. As&#237;, se indican posibilidades para pensar la superaci&#243;n de esos obst&#225;culos en el aula.]]></p></abstract>
